·       review the importance of developing all four communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in order to enhance ELs’ literacy;

·       explore the significance of teaching academic vocabulary and academic language structures; and

·       discover how teaching connectives (transitional or signal words) can support ELs’ comprehension and their oral and written expression.
